McCain - Palin 2008
At the beginning of the election season I had absolutely no idea who to vote for. I wrestled with which candidate was right. I knew some were quite obviously a "no" but who was right? No one just stood out as THE one. I put my vote behind Huckabee but still not convinced that he was the man for the job. Morals, absolutely right where I wanted him...but something didn't seem right. It came down to it and McCain was the pick of the Republican party. I was not happy. Had our society slid that far in just 4 years?
In the past you would have found me on the busiest intersection waiving signs for the Republican candidate with all my might, passing out bumper stickers, and going door to door. This time, I had no heart. I had made up my mind to vote not for McCain. Not because I was a fan, but anyone was better than Obama....but now the tables have turned at the clever play of a very unexpected card in the game of politics. Palin.
I'm sitting back and watching. History is being made. I don't know where this election is going to end up, but I can say...McCain's ticket just became exciting.

Rebekah,
ReplyDeleteMay I interrupt you with a bit of a controversial comment on your blog?
This whole issue of McCain/Palin over this past week has bugged me...in fact, very immensely. Putting matters aside that she may be pro-life and all, she is a woman, and has 5 children who need her to be their mother, not the VP of their country. She has a husband whom she should not be ruling over (as she would be in the office of VP. Surprising enough, she is a self-described feminist, and this is not painting a good picture of Godly womanhood. On top of that, my ultimate question would be: (first I must make a statement) McCain does not have a record of being pro-life, so it doesn't matter what words he may use. Therefore, do you honestly think that by choosing a woman (much younger than he is) to be his VP candidate and is pro-life, do you really think he is justified and her "goodness" or pro-lifeness really makes up for the lack of his?
I've done a lot of thinking, and when I first heard the news of his pick, it did not set well within my heart. It is not enough to vote for the lesser of two evils. Sarah Palin's place is in her home, taking care of these children who so desperately need her. Think about it - a 4 month old baby and a pregnant 17 year old daughter, not to mention the 2 children between and the son in Iraq. Her family needs her - she doesn't need to succumb to becoming the helpmate of the President of the United States, leave that for another man to do.
Well, I hope you don't mind me leaving this comment, because I couldn't just say nothing. If you want to respond back I'd love it, or else you could drop me a line via email: maid2praiz @ clearwire . net (remove spaces)

oops, sorry, I spelt your name wrong on my last comment - my sister is spelt with a "K" and I wasn't thinking about it right then! Sorry about that, I'll try to remember!!

Ruthann,
ReplyDeleteI welcome any comments that anyone would care to leave. Controversial or otherwise. =)
I appreciate where you are coming from on this topic. I understand the concerns of being "a keeper at home" as well as a "helpmeet to her husband." However, no matter what my personal opinion may be on those topics, it does not change the fact that she is indeed the pick for VP on the Republican ticket and there is nothing that anyone can do to change it.
As you can tell from my blog I never was happy about McCain and he is still not my first choice. I do like Sarah Palin's values and agree with her on her political standing. Therefore I have asked myself this question: "is it better to have McCain, the clear lesser of 2 evils, as president of my country or throw my vote away on someone who has no chance at being President and thereby allowing Obama to become Commander in Chief of my much beloved country?" To answer that question, No, I can not in clear conscience do so. Thus my decision to vote for the McCain-Palin ticket.
No worries on spelling my name wrong...I get it all the time.

Quite frankly, what it comes down to is, Sarah Palin believes she can care for her kids and be VP at the same time. Who are we to question her? I'm pretty sure she knows what it takes to take care of her 5 kids a whole lot better than anyone else.
ReplyDeleteIf Sarah thought she couldn't be a mother to her kids and VP at the same time, she wouldn't have put herself on the ticket.
I'm not going to stand in the way of her because I'm not sure about her time constraints. I'll let her handle that. Call me crazy.
By the way, the kids will come to DC too, they aren't going to be sitting back in Wasilla knitting mittens in their igloo.
When one enters the field of politics, he or she must be prepared to make sacrifices. Sacrifices are necessary evils. And that is to be expected. After all, politicians are supposed to be "public servants" aren't they?
ReplyDeleteSara Palin may be "sacrificing" raising her children as well as she may have hoped, but she will offset that loss by making their future a little brighter via the policies she will help enact.
That's my two cents worth, anyway...

I have heard people fuss and complain about how Sarah Palin has children and needs to be at home etc. Bottom line is this... she is the one that McCain chose. No one can change that. Are the Christians who have an issue going to abstain from voting possibly enabling Obama to win this election? I hope not. That would be far worse. So, issues or not... I think Christians should stop fussing over Palin as VP and should be pitching a fit over Obama and the serious issues that will result from his presidency. Come on people - lets stop running this ticket in the ground when the opposition is FAR FAR worse.
