A Flowers and Chocolate Nightmare
I love my bosses. I honestly feel so blessed by these three people! I've never experienced just generosity from any employer like I have these good people.... so when walked into work and found out at the last minute that it was Boss's Day, I wanted things to be perfect! Somehow the project of finding the perfect things landed on my desk (shocking, I know...) Every admin's worst nightmare... Walk into work and find out it's Boss's Day and you've got 3 hours to pull off a miracle.
I set off in search for flowers and chocolate....you know, the usual. My nightmare only got worse. At the suggestion of one of my associates I hit the local "organic grocery" for the perfect flowers and chocolates. I selected what flowers I wanted in the arrangements, paid for them and headed to the "chocolate" section. I'm not sure which horrified me more...their selection of tofu chocolates or the pathetic arrangements I picked up 30 minutes later. I've never seen anything quite so pathetic. For 20 minutes on my way back to the office I contemplated eating the cost myself, ditching those flowers and ordering a rush delivery!
I hurried back to the office, hiding the sad arrangements in the back office and acting as though everything were a normal work day. As soon as the elevator doors closed behind my bosses on their way out for lunch I grabbed my intern and took off to the nearest Publix. They were out of cards, had no good chocolates and we managed to find some decent roses and a florist who didn't speak English. I paid for a couple dozen roses and filler flowers. Rushed back to the office, handed my car over to the intern for a run to Target for cards and some other items, dashed up the elevator to the office to somehow make those 2 pathetic arrangements look like a professional had done them. I just kept praying that God would guide my hands and in His faithfulness....those arrangements turned out like only he could do!
In 3 hours I somehow managed to save the day more than once, deliver the gifts, not look frazzled and smile as they exclaimed how pretty they were...my thoughts..."If only you knew the half of it!"
