We're Engaged!!!!
On January 15, 2010, Shaun asked me to marry him!!! I'm still floating on the clouds and it hits me throughout the day here and there...I'm going to marry my best friend and be his! I can't even explain how thrilled I am and what an honor it is to become his wife! Ahhhhh!!! just typing that out makes me giddy!
We were both in Orlando, FL for a weekend trip to Disney. Compliments of Shaun's company who graciously offered to pay my way for the weekend since everyone was down there during the week for work. So I said Yes...well that was five months ago. So when Shaun told me had planned dinner for just us, I didn't think too much about it. After all, we hadn't seen each other that much in the last two weeks and I seriously needed some time with him.
He picked me up at 6:30 and we walked down to what I thought was going to be the parking lot...turns out he walked me to a marina at our resort and onto a private boat. We were the only two there. (little did I know some friends were hiding in the bushes watching) He told me "everyone" else would join us in a few minutes and I thought it must be a company cocktail hour or something pre-dinner. The captain then comes on board, introduces himself, starts the boat and pulls out of the dock. Shaun then turned to me and told me that "Well, it's actually just us. I heard you can see the fireworks best from the lake and I thought this might be fun for us to do!"
It took about an hour for the sun to set and for our tour of the lake to finish before we found ourselves parked right in front of the Magic Castle and all the lights of Disney! The Captain told us we had a couple of minutes before the show would start and could he please take our pictures.
He had a pretty snazzy camera set up on a tripod (again I'm thinking tourism) that little did I know, Shaun had borrowed from our friend, Adam, and had spent a couple hours that afternoon preparing and setting up on the boat! We both posed for a few shots, then Shaun went to check them out and make sure they looked good. What I didn't know was that he secretly switched the camera to record mode. I saw him reach for something and had the thought "I know it's not going to happen tonight, but just in case I should turn around and not look" and so I did.
Shaun walked over in a way that I'll never forget. He had such a precious look on his face and took me by both hands and told me so many sweet and wonderful things! Then just like we were in a movie, he dropped to one knee. I didn't see him pull the ring out because I buried my face in my hands crying (VERY happy tears) and by the time I looked up he had the box already open. I said YES! After a sweet moment by ourselves the Captain walked back to the front of the boat and took a few more shots, just before the fireworks started.
The fireworks were all timed to the Disney songs about wishes, dreams and love. It was the perfect topper to the whole moment. I can't really put into words what was going on inside, but the fireworks in the sky failed in comparison to what was in both our hearts.
We cruised back to the resort to find our friends waiting for us with a IBC root bear toast (Shaun's favorite) to the both of us. What a special time and special friends to share it all.
